BRIDGEPORT, CT – The Homes for the Brave organization (HFTB) held its signature fundraiser, the Step OUT for the Brave 40,000 Step Challenge, raising over $86,000 to date to help Veterans experiencing homelessness. Between Saturday, August 7 and Sunday, August 15 nearly 670 participants from across the country took steps where they lived to help those who served our country return to a life of independence. Donations are still being accepted through August 31st and can be made by visiting https://www.homesforthebrave.org/stepout.

The challenge is named for the 40,000 Veterans experiencing homelessness across the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development 2020 Annual Homeless Assessment Report, the number of veterans experiencing homelessness increased in 2020, even before the effects of the coronavirus pandemic were felt.

“More needs to be done to help Veterans achieve stable, permanent housing. At Homes for the Brave, we provide housing and services to those experiencing homelessness, helping them to return to a productive and meaningful life. As our signature fundraiser, this event allows us to fulfill that mission,” said CEO and Executive Director, Vince Santilli.

Located in Bridgeport, CT, Homes for the Brave provides housing, mental health and employment services to Veterans experiencing homelessness, helping them to secure income, build life skills, and make meaningful contributions to our community. Since its founding 2002, Homes for the Brave has helped over 1,400 homeless individuals.

An event kick-off was held on Saturday, August 7th at the University of Bridgeport, allowing participants to begin taking their steps. Donations to the event are still being accepted.
