Murphy: New Report: Trumpcare Will Cost Connecticut Families & Seniors Thousands More For Health Care
By U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.)

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, released on Friday the following statement on a new state-by-state cost analysis by the Center for American Progress, which found that Trumpcare will cost Connecticut residents and their families thousands more for health care. Specifically the report found that under Trumpcare, the average adult in Connecticut would see health care costs rise over $4,000, including over $6,000 for low-income individuals and $10,000 for older residents. Connecticut families would also get hit with higher costs, with families on average being forced to pay $8,600 to $14,000 more.

“Trumpcare would make life a lot harder for Connecticut families already trying to make ends meet. How can anyone, especially poorer, older residents, afford to pay thousands more to get the same—or worse—health care? Trumpcare is a disaster, and passing this bill would be a huge mistake. Instead, my Republican colleagues should work with Democrats to write a new health care bill that builds on the Affordable Care Act and lowers costs for families.”

Analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) concluded that under Trumpcare, 24 million fewer people would be insured by 2026 and average premiums would increase by 15-20% for single policyholders in the individual market. On Thursday, Murphy laid out the facts of Trumpcare with a PowerPoint presentation.
