Multidisciplinary Care Team Expanding at Hospital for Special Care’s Autism Center

NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Hospital for Special Care (HSC) has expanded the multidisciplinary care team at the Autism Center to respond to growing community need for services as the center marks five years of service to children and youth diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. “We are pleased to continue to develop our highly specialized, multidisciplinary team,” said Lynn Ricci, FACHE, president and CEO of HSC. “The need for these services continues to grow across Connecticut and our integrated team approach integrates a range of specialties to address the unique needs and strengths of each child and family.”

The Autism Center at HSC, the only patient-centered specialty practice for autism in the country, currently includes an eight-bed inpatient unit and an outpatient center providing more than 6,000 visits annually. The multidisciplinary clinical team has recently expanded to accommodate the center’s continued growth. Dr. Hassan Minhas, M.D. has been appointed Medical Director of Outpatient Services and Sabooh Mubbashar, M.D. has been appointed Medical Director of the Autism Inpatient Unit, Naomi Libby, M.D. joins as a psychiatrist and Concepcion Cortes, RN, APRN, MPH, BC-FNP, BC-PMHNP, joins as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in the outpatient Autism Center.

Hassan Minhas completed his medical degree at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the Department of Law and Psychiatry at Yale University. He holds a specialty certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Sabooh Mubbashar completed his medical degree at Rawalpindi Medical College in Pakistan. He completed fellowships for clinical psychiatry at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Pakistan and a post-doctoral fellowship in neuro-pharmacology and neurosciences at Yale University School of Medicine. He completed residencies for adult psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine and child and adolescent psychiatry at Yale Child Study Center, Yale University. He is Board Certified in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry.

Naomi Libby completed her medical degree at Brandeis University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her fellowship and residency at Albert J. Solnit Integrated Training Program in Adult and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine. Libby is board-certified in psychiatry.

Concepcion Cortes completed her Master’s Degree for Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh and her Master’s Degree for Science in Nursing at Carlow University. She is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
