Hartford, CT - On Friday, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representatives John Larson (D-1), Joe Courtney (D-2), Rosa DeLauro (D-3), Jim Himes (D-4), and Jahana Hayes (D-5) applauded $600,000 in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funding for cleaning up contaminated brownfield properties in Connecticut.

The Connecticut Brownfield Land Bank, Inc. and the Town of Stafford will each receive $300,000 in funding.

“Transforming eyesores into economic powerhouses, this funding to redevelop brownfields sites will boost local economies and revitalize neighborhoods,” said the delegation. “We applaud the EPA for making this substantial investment in our state, and look forward to the variety of positive impacts these federal dollars will have on communities ready for brownfields cleanup and redevelopment.”

According to the EPA, the agency announced a total of $11.6 million in supplemental funding to 30 New England communities to assess or clean contaminated brownfields sites.
