New Haven announces new Police Chief

NEW HAVEN- Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. announced today, the hiring of
Frank Limon as the City’s new Chief of Police. Limon, a 30-year
Veteran of the Chicago, Ill. Police Department, was most recently Chief
of the River Forest, Ill. Police Department where he oversaw a reduction in crime of 28 percent in 2009.

“I am pleased to announce my appointment of Frank as the next chief
of the New Haven Police Department,” said DeStefano. “In selecting
Frank, I was particularly attracted to his record of success in Chicago
and his firm belief in the importance of partnering with the community
to reduce crime and make our neighborhoods safer. I think Frank will be
a strong communicator of the values, the work and the strategies of the
Department.”

Limon served as the Chief of the Chicago Police Department’s
Organized Crime Division where he developed, planned and implemented a
comprehensive multi-agency response Chicago’s narcotics, firearms and
gang problems. In Chicago, Limon also held the positions of: Assistant
Deputy Superintendent, Bureau of Strategy and Accountability; Assistant
Deputy Superintendent, Bureau of Operational Services and Commander of
the 13th District, Patrol Division.

“I am thankful for the opportunity that Mayor DeStefano has given me
to serve as the new Police chief here in New Haven,” said Limon. “I
will collaborate with the rank and file and the supervisors and leaders
of the Department to evaluate and enhance New Haven’s crime strategy
so that we are working effectively to make our neighborhoods safer for
everyone. I am also looking forward to working with the Yale Police
Department and our Federal, State and Local partners.”

Limon earned a Masters in Public Administration from the Illinois
Institute of Technology and a Bachelors degree in Criminal Social
Justice from Saint Xavier University.

“My leadership style is to lead by example. I am very committed to
the citizens of New Haven and will work with the men and women in the
Department to make this City a safer environment for our children who
are the future heroes of our country and city,” said Limon.

Limon, who will move to New Haven with his wife Gissella, will be sworn
into office on April 5th for a term that extends through February 1,
2014.
