Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Raul Pino, in preparation for the influenza season, is proactively encouraging all residents to get vaccinated against influenza. To increase the number of vaccinated Connecticut residents, the Department of Public Health has launched a statewide Influenza Clinics campaign to provide vaccination for persons without insurance.
The City of Stamford Health Department will be participating in this campaign and will be holding FREE influenza clinics for children and adults on Saturday, December 1, 2018 and Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Government Center from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. No appointment is needed, and if you have any questions, please call 203-977-5385 Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
“I encourage all Stamford residents who have not yet had their flu shot to take advantage of this influenza vaccination program,” said Mayor David Martin, who personally receives the flu shot every year. “The best way to prevent the flu and protect yourself and your loved ones is to get the flu vaccine. So please join us on the 1st or 8th.”
It is still early in the influenza season to predict how the virus will circulate or how effective the vaccine will be. However, vaccination remains the best method of protection and the CDC continues to recommend the use of the current influenza vaccine as it is effective in reducing the risk of disease, the severity of illness, and the probability of death.
The influenza vaccine is a safe vaccine with very few side effects. The Stamford Health Department is encouraging persons without insurance who have not yet been vaccinated to come by and get themselves and their family members vaccinated.
