The Conservation Quest SM Mini Exhibit will travel to schools throughout the state free of charge after its stay at Rogers International School. The Mini Exhibit for schools is made possible by a lead grant from the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund. Stepping Stones created Conservation QuestSM, a 1,500 square foot exhibit, in October 2008 for Governor Rell’s OneThing Expo in Hartford. Since then, it has toured children’s museums, science centers and zoos across the country. The Mini Exhibit was created to accommodate smaller venues, like schools and libraries, and teach about energy conservation. “We are excited to bring Conservation Quest and its important energy conservation messages to more than 100 elementary schools throughout the state over the next several years,” said Rhonda Kiest, executive director at Stepping Stones Museum for Children. “Students will find simple ways to save energy through these hands-on exhibits and will develop a greater understanding of how the choices we make each day affect our health and the health of our planet.” The Conservation QuestSM Mini Exhibit features more than 15 hands-on activities and program ideas. Sample activities include: Bright Ideas Crank it up! Compare the amount of energy required to light up an incandescent bulb, a CFL bulb and a LED bulb. You’ll be enlightened. Solar Energy Try using the energy from clean, renewable sources to make electricity to power up a clock radio or spin a fan. Learn about solar panels. How Do You Stack Up? How much electricity does your family use each day? Sort the Waste Learn about the ins and outs of recycling. Conservation QuestSM was designed and produced using environmentally-friendly materials and practices. Green design signs throughout the exhibit call out these sustainable features. * Eco-friendly graphics (Eco-board) * Sustainably managed wood * Water-based stains and sealants * Self-crating components Conservation QuestSM received additional leadership support from The Foster Family Fund, Northeast Utilities Foundation, Evolution Markets Inc. and CME Group, Inc. Conservation QuestSM is an extension of Healthy Children, Healthy Communities® made possible by The Bauer Foundation, United Healthcare, State of Connecticut, The Foster Family Fund, Herb and Anne Gullquist and People’s United Community Foundation. About the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund (CEEF): Created to address Connecticut’s increasing energy needs—and rising costs—the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund (CEEF) is an initiative to help homeowners and renters, small and large businesses, and state and local governments alike get in the habit of using energy more efficiently. In the shared interest of implementing conservation measures that are energy-efficient, cost-effective, and easy to live with, the CEEF is the result of a partnership with the state’s utility companies and funded by a small charge on customers’ bills.Additional information on Connecticut's energy-efficiency programs can be found at ctsavesenergy.org.
