Dodd meets with UConn President Hogan

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) met with University of Connecticut President Michael Hogan yesterday to discuss how federal support for the University can help spur innovation and create jobs in Connecticut. “The University of Connecticut is one of the premier research institutions in the nation,” said Dodd. “Under President Hogan’s leadership, the University will continue to lead in the fields of fuel cell technology and bioscience advancements – creating 21st-century jobs for Connecticut. I look forward to continuing our work together and supporting UConn’s efforts to provide their students and facility with the tools they need to succeed.”

Last year, Senator Dodd helped secure nearly $8 million in federal funding for programs and research at the University of Connecticut, including:

* $3.654 million for the Center of Excellence for Vaccine Research

· $2.5 million for fuel cell research

· $1.5 million for a bio-energy initiative

· $500,000 for protein production research

· $401,000 for the Food Marketing Policy Center

* $200,000 for the Avery Point Technology Incubation Center to enhance the areas of bioscience, materials, nanotechnology, and environmental technology at the business incubator facility
* $150,000 for the Farmington Technology Incubation to expand the Center’s program to promote the growth of small entrepreneurial businesses in the Greater Hartford area
* $295,000 for the NE Center for Invasive Plants, University of Connecticut, the University of Vermont, and the University of Maine
