Accomplished sailor and author Stephan J.W. Platzer will discuss Bringing E Home, the firsthand account of his transatlantic voyage aboard the schooner Ernestina, at the Maritime Author Series at Mystic Seaport Wednesday, March 24, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. In 1982, Platzer served as radio operator aboard the Gloucester fishing vessel from Cape Verde to America. Bringing E Home is the story of the 3,400 mile trip, made entirely under sail, based on his journal entries. The journey included weeks of becalmed seas, unexpected squalls and close encounters with freighters as the 14 sailors learned to survive and thrive on the 105-foot vessel.

The evening begins with a wine and cheese reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by Platzer’s talk at 6 p.m. A question and answer session will follow the author’s presentation, along with the chance for one guest to win a free copy of Bringing E Home.

Tickets are $20 ($15 for members) and available at www.mysticseaport.org/tickets or by calling 860.572.5322.

The series concludes Wednesday, April 28, with William H. White’s discussion of When Fortune Frowns. For more information, visit www.mysticseaport.org/maritimeauthors.

The Maritime Authors Series is co-sponsored by the Museum’s Library Fellows.
