HARTFORD, CT - The American Red Cross will honor the brave, selfless and strong humanitarians who supported the Red Cross during the 2017 hurricanes with the 2018 Community Impact Award. These hurricane heroes will be honored at the Red Cross Heroes Ball on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

The 2018 Community Impact Award will be presented to individuals, companies, and foundations who supported the Red Cross with time, manpower, and funding during this devastating hurricane season.

The 2017 hurricane season was among the top 10 all-time most active seasons on record. Hurricanes Maria, Harvey, and Irma left millions without food and shelter, displaced from their homes, separated from their families, and in the most devastating of cases, lost their lives. In the face of this great devastation, the Red Cross has been there. Like a hurricane, humanitarians from all over rushed to the affected areas, heading straight into the storm to provide care, shelter, and hope to those affected.

“The 2017 hurricane season left devastation in its wake, but the Red Cross was there and continues to be there because of the generosity and humanitarian spirit of our volunteers and donors,” said Mario Bruno, CEO, American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region. “While the 2017 hurricanes brought destruction, it also showed us the power of the human spirit and the dedication of Red Crossers. We look forward to honoring them all on March 3.”

This year’s Ball will be an evening full of fun, inspiration and heroes. This year’s event is being chaired by Tom Vaccarelli, Vice President of Facilities, Construction and Real Estate at Hartford HealthCare and Red Cross Connecticut Board Member. Resiliency Sponsor for the fifth year is Mohegan Sun. The Ball will be emceed by Co-Chief Meteorologist Joe Furey of WTNH Storm Team 8. The event begins with a reception at 6:00 p.m., featuring silent auction items, interactive photo booths and live music. Tickets and information are available at
