Southport, CT - Enjoy an up-close-and-personal experience with Pequot Library’s Special Collections of rare books, manuscripts, and archives with George Miles, curator of the Western Americana Collection at the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale University, on Friday, May 4, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Pequot Library. In this unique Fantastic Finds program, Miles discusses a selection of materials featured in the Living in the New World exhibition including items kept on long-term loan at the Beinecke. Selections include The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans, in the Mohawk language, William Hubbard's 1677 discourse on the Pequot War, and an early catechism for young children. Fantastic Finds is free and open to the public.

The Living in the New World exhibition, on view in Pequot Library’s Perkin Gallery and Reading Room through May 6, inspires viewers to journey back in time to the early days of the New World and explore the dynamics between new settlers and Native Americans through the Library’s Special Collections.

Pequot Library’s Special Collections is comprised of over 30,000 items that reflect the founders’ interest in Early Americana, nature, science, literature, and the arts. It offers patrons a wide selection of primary source material for research and learning, and provides the foundation for the public programs hosted by the Library.
