The 2nd Annual Speakers Luncheon to benefit STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way… was once again a popular success with rave reviews. The event featured Norah O’Donnell on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Woodway Country Club in Darien, Connecticut. Ms. O’Donnell’s speech, titled “Work and Family: Achieving Balance and Leaving Time for Yourself” was moderated by Sharon Crowley, TV reporter and anchor for WNYW Fox5 News. Over 200 people attended the luncheon, which raised over $45,000 for STAR.
Norah shared her inspiration and powerful experiences as a news anchor, White House news correspondent, student at Georgetown University, wife of retauranteur, and mother of three children—and her efforts to “have it all”. She shared stories from the historic 2008 presidential election, and traveling extensively with then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and reporting on the war in Afghanistan and the war on terrorism.
The speech was followed by a Question and Answer session which resulted in women from the audience sharing their own experiences as working women, wives and mothers.
Norah O’Donnell, named “One of Washington’s 100 most powerful women” by Washingtonian Magazine, was also called by the magazine, “One of Washington’s most trusted anchors.” She is the current Chief White Correspondent for CBS News, co-anchor of CBS This Morning, substitute anchor for Face the Nation and contributor for the award-winning 60 minutes.
