The event will take place in the lobby of Technology Hall, located on the east side of the campus, at 750 Chase Parkway in Waterbury. (Please see the attached directions.) Governor M. Jodi Rell stated, “Our community colleges are filled with creative, hard-working students, many of whom hold part-time or full-time jobs. Naugatuck Valley Community College’s new Technology Hall offers them a brighter future. Many are searching for second careers, as they train to become skilled workers in our region. By building up our highly-trained workforce, we are making Connecticut more attractive to business and industry, and this means jobs for Connecticut.” DPW Commissioner Raeanne V. Curtis said, “This facility is DPW’s first new building construction project at NVCC in almost 20 years. Technology Hall is a tremendous asset for the college, and it is a sound investment for our state.” NVCC President De Filippis said, “We welcome Governor Rell to our beautiful campus and this outstanding Technology Hall so that she may observe first-hand the fine work being done on campus to support our students’ success. Thanks to the generosity of Governor Rell, our distinguished legislators, and the support of the Connecticut Community and Technical College Board of Trustees and our Chancellor Marc S. Herzog and his talented staff, a well-equipped state-of-the-art facility like this one provides our students with the space, equipment and learning experience necessary for them to acquire twenty-first century skills so they can realize their fullest potential and support the workforce needs of the state of Connecticut. This, in turn, provides us with the means necessary to fulfill our mission and goal." The speakers at the dedication ceremony will include Governor Rell, Marc S. Herzog, Chancellor, Connecticut Community Colleges, and NVCC President De Filippis. The master of ceremonies will be James Troup, NVCC Dean of Administration and Finance. NVCC’s Technology Hall is a 100,000 square foot, three-story glass and masonry structure. The facility provides state-of-the-art teaching facilities for technical programs including: automotive technology, computer technology, and computer-aided design, electronics and manufacturing laboratories, classrooms, administrative offices, a horticulture program located in a new greenhouse adjacent to the new building, and facilities for the college’s hospitality, food service and hotel management program. The new facility replaces seven modular buildings that were erected on the campus in 1972. It also replaces the automotive program’s leased facility on Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury. The architect and construction administrator for the Technology Hall project was Amenta/Emma Architects, P.C., of Hartford. The contractor was Lawrence Brunoli, Inc. of Farmington. NVCC offers more than 100 associate degree and credit certificates and hundreds of non-credit courses. NVCC serves 35 communities in western Connecticut and has a student population of more than 6,000. The state Department of Public Works is responsible for the design and construction of major capital building projects (except highways and bridges) for most state agencies, leasing and acquisitions statewide, and facility management, maintenance and security of state buildings in the greater Hartford area. © Copyright by ConnecticutPlus.com.
