At age 13 Greenwich native Missy Wolfe read Spencer Mead’s Ye Historie of Ye Towne of Greenwich and first learned about a massacre that occurred here. Decades later, still wanting to know more and finding little substantive information, Ms. Wolfe decided to conduct original source document research.

Her findings will be the subject of the third in the Historical Society’s “Dutch Connections” series devoted to understanding the Dutch impact on American culture, past and present, and held in conjunction with NY400, the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s 1609 voyage up the Hudson River. Learn why Greenwich’s first residents played key roles in the genocidal Kieft’s War of 1644, and how Greenwich was the launch point for multiple Native American massacres by both Dutch and English forces in and beyond the town.

Ms. Wolfe holds an MBA from Columbia University and is completing a Masters degree in fine arts. She is also working on a book “Greenwich Mean Times: The Earliest History of Southwestern Connecticut.” Her lecture will take place on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Greenwich Historical Society, 39 Strickland Road, Cos Cob, CT. Cost for members of the Greenwich Historical Society is $10 and $15 for nonmembers.
