New Canaan, CT - The Tim Tebow Foundation once again selected Grace Community Church in New Canaan, collaborating with STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way, to be one of over 550 locations in sixteen countries to host simultaneously an unforgettable prom night for young adults with disabilities and their “buddy” peers. The event was Friday evening February 9 from 6-9 p.m.  Over 114 Guests were crowned as kings and queens, supported by 127 of their peers and over 250 event volunteers for assignments including red carpet greeting, crowning ceremony, decorations, food & beverages, paparazzi, photography, parking, safety and more. Over 200 parents observed with broad smiles and glistening eyes as their young adults danced their hearts out and lived their prom dreams.

The non-denominational evening celebrated the unique value of every individual, with a focus on young adults with special needs ages 14-25. Prior to the crowning ceremony, the crowd enjoyed a pre-recorded inspirational message from the evening’s key founder and host, Tim Tebow that was shared worldwide.

Julia Hughes, Executive Director of Grace Community Church said, “It is an honor to host an event like this, serving with so many people from Connecticut and New York who have a heart for people with special needs. Seeing people connect as volunteers, and friendships ignite between high school buddies and peer guests in inspirational. The whole evening is God’s love in action.”

The event was made possible by generous support from the Tim Tebow Foundation and generous donations from STAR, Inc., Prospect Hill Foundation, and The Thomas Family Foundation. The event’s co-chairperson, Monica Rowett of Grace Community Church shared, “We could not have made this evening so incredibly special for our honored guests without the spirit and energy of our 250+ volunteers. Their joy every step of the way kept us going!” More donations came from Elegant Effects, Flowers by Danielle, Gardella’s Elite Limousine, Gary Z of Stamford Florist, Izzi B’s Allergen Free Bakery, The Market at Pound Ridge Square, MAX Event Design, Michael Joseph’s Catering in Darien, New England Ballet Company, Partners Cafe & Pizzeria, Norwalk, Teddy Gianokos and Peter’s Party Fixins, LLC, and The Village Market of Wilton.
Katie Banzhaf, Executive Director of STAR said, “Last year’s Night to Shine was celebrated as a once-in-a-lifetime experience for people with special needs, where all were treated royally. We are very appreciative for the repeat of this incredible, free event hosted by our friends at Grace Community Church and are so pleased that many of the guests returned with dozens of new friends.”
