BERLIN, CT - When Danielle Poulin isn’t busy assisting Eversource business customers with energy efficiency upgrades, she spends her downtime caring for dozens of cats at the Meriden Humane Society while they wait for their forever homes. Whether it’s feeding the felines, showing them to potential adoptees, helping administer medication, or just spending quality time with them – being with the animals is a passion of hers.
“People don’t realize that spending just a couple of hours with these animals makes an enormous difference in their day and their mood,” said Poulin, who works in the energy efficiency department at Eversource. “All the cats and dogs at the Humane Society deserve a second chance. Everyone who volunteers or works here loves them so much and always has their best interest in mind.”
Poulin first heard of the nonprofit after adopting her cat, Lily, from the shelter a few years ago. Since then she’s been volunteering there once a week – working with the cats, joining the fundraising committee, and even adopting another cat named Milo. Since the Meriden Humane Society relies solely on donations to operate, Poulin works hard to coordinate numerous fundraisers throughout the year.
“This is such an important cause to me and so close to my heart,” said Poulin. “I wish I could adopt them all.” During National Volunteer Week, Eversource is recognizing employees like Poulin, who give their time and talent all year in the service of others.
“Our company has a unique ability to make a difference in the communities we serve,” said Eversource President of Corporate Citizenship Rod Powell. “We’re grateful to have employees like Danielle, who exemplify our commitment to supporting the neighborhoods where we work and live by sacrificing their own time.”
In 2018, more than 5,500 Eversource employees volunteered more than 30,000 hours at dozens of charitable organizations across Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Employees donated their time and resources to organizations like the Special Olympics, the Boys and Girls Club, the Connecticut Food Bank, among others. From preparing meals at homeless shelters, to collecting gifts for children in need during the holidays, to participating in the Eversource Hartford Marathon, Eversource volunteers do it all.
