STAMFORD, CT - Stamford recycling centers are now taking Christmas trees for disposal. Residents may immediately take their trees to either the Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center located at 130 Magee Avenue or the Scale House located at 101 Harborview Avenue. Curbside pickup of Christmas trees will begin on Jan. 15.

The Scale House is open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center is open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Alternatively, residents may place their Christmas tree for curbside pickup on Jan. 15. Trees placed curbside cannot have any type of decoration on them. Plastic Christmas trees will not be picked up.

Stamford’s Highways Department may continue curbside pickup through the end of the month, weather permitting. To ensure trees are disposed of properly, the City of Stamford asks residents to please bring their tree to a City recycling center. Residents who are unable to bring their tree to a recycling center must place their tree curbside no later than Jan. 15.

Beginning in 2019-2020, the City will implement a new environmentally-sound collection process which will reduce tree litter, improve safety by preventing loose trees from cluttering streets, and avoid disposed trees from adding to community blight. The new process will encourage residents to drop their trees off at designated pickup locations where recycled trees will be used for projects around the city. More details will be found on the city website later this year.
