“It’s no secret that we need to create more jobs in Connecticut, but it is a well-hidden secret that we have this great support system for new businesses, like this incubator program— a real program that we can use to market Connecticut to the world,” said Perone. “Our state is competing with 49 other states and countries around the world to attract industry, but we must get the word out about how business friendly we are before it is too late.” The Connecticut Business Incubator Network, part of the National Business Incubator Network, has seven participating incubator programs operating a total of 10 facilities strategically located throughout the state. Together, the facilities provide a home to more than 64 start-up businesses. The program is designed to accelerate young start-up businesses from an emerging concept to a viable enterprise. They nurture the development of entrepreneurial companies, helping them survive and grow during the start-up period, when they are most vulnerable. Perone has been a key member of the Majority Leaders’ Jobs Growth Roundtable, since it was formed earlier this year by legislative leaders to spur business development and job creation in the state. Perone sponsored sweeping economic development legislation based on the roundtable’s recommendations that was passed with strong bi-partisan support earlier this year and signed into law by Governor Rell. Perone noted that the immediate goal of the legislation is to jump-start job creation, while laying a foundation for long-term economic growth. Incentives for entrepreneurship and innovation, infrastructure, and education are all contained in the bill. The bill also helps small businesses get access to capital by creating a small loan pool, and provides opportunities for training and rehiring of the recently unemployed. “This year’s legislation creates an infrastructure to attract and retain jobs here. Our next step must be coordinating and integrating with the business community,” noted Perone who has been a long-time business champion and was one of the few Democrats to be endorsed by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) this year. Perone added that he would be sponsoring legislation in next year’s legislature to ensure the state continues to offer appropriate levels of support for business to attract new jobs to the state and keep our existing industry here. “I also will be working to create a one-stop shop for entrepreneurs who want to start a business,” said Perone. © Copyright by ConnecticutPlus.com.
