DANBURY, CT - Western Connecticut State University will host its annual Veterans Day observance as well as National Remembrance Day on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The November ceremonies will recognize all those who have served and WCSU veterans in particular. The events, which are free and open to the public, are sponsored by the WCSU Student Veterans Organization, Veterans Advisory Committee, Office of Enrollment Management and Office of Student Affairs.

The events will include:

Friday, Nov. 8: In observance of Veterans Day, there will be the laying of a wreath at 12:30 p.m. at Ives Concert Hall in White Hall. Afterward, WCSU President James W. Schmotter will read the Gettysburg Address at the Alumni & Friends Circle outside of Old Main. Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton will be the keynote speaker.

Monday, Nov. 11: To commemorate National Remembrance Day, guests will gather at 10:45 a.m. at the Alumni & Friends Circle outside of Old Main, which will be followed at 11 a.m. by a national moment of silence. Beginning at 11:15 a.m., there will be a roll call to honor those men and women from Connecticut who have given their lives for their country and those who have or are currently serving.

“In addition to paying tribute to all those who served our country with pride and distinction,” said Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Daryle Dennis, “I believe the Veterans ceremony illustrates the university’s commitment to acknowledging, honoring and supporting our student veterans.”
