Joyce DiCamillo Trio to perform in Stamford

The First at First at Four Concert Series in Stamford, Conn., is pleased to host The Joyce DiCamillo Trio, who will perform a jazz concert in Stamford on Sunday, November 1, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. The concert will be held at The First United Methodist Church, 42 Cross Road, Stamford, Conn. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students and can be reserved by calling 203-324-1323.

Joyce DiCamillo is a renowned pianist who has her own jazz trio for more than 20 years. As a pianist, Joyce has performed with such jazz greats as James Moody, Phil Woods, Houston Person, Nick Brignola, Marvin Stamm, Urbie Green, Arnie Lawrence, Steve Marcus, Gerry Neiwood, Bob Mintzer, Butch Miles, Andy Fusco, and Marlene verPlanck. Her trio has released five CDs: A Touch of Jazz, Freelancin’, Moment to Moment, Love Letters, and Sunrise Lady.

Joyce DiCamillo performs on the Steinway piano and is included on the prestigious International Roster of Steinway Artists. She has performed return engagements at the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., hosted by Dr. Billy Taylor, as well as featured at the Kennedy Center Jazz Club. Her trio has headlined at such venues as Southport (UK) Jazz Festival, Guinness Jazz Festival (Cork, Ireland), Andria (Italy) Jazz Festival, Syracuse Jazzfest, The Jazz Cruise, and Litchfield Jazz Festival. Joyce has also been featured on National Public Radio’s Piano Jazz hosted by Marian McPartland. She has toured as pianist for internationally known pop vocalist Donna Summer, appearing with her in Mexico, Chile and throughout the United States. Joyce is also one of the artists interviewed on the AFof M video, “How to Get the Gigs that Pay the Big Bucks,” and has appeared as a panelist at the Kennedy Center discussing the music business.

A graduate of Syracuse University School of Music, Joyce holds a degree in Music Theory/Composition with Honors in Piano; she studied with concert pianist Frederick Marvin, a disciple of Claudio Arrau. Joyce is listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and Outstanding Young Women of America. She has given lecture/demonstrations on jazz for such groups as American Association of University Women and American Pen Women.

A long-time classical piano instructor and jazz coach, Joyce was a member and Connecticut Chapter Officer of the IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators), and a co-founder/instructor of the Young Artists Summer Jazz Workshop, having recently celebrated its 17th successful season. She continues to direct both the Young People’s and Young Artists Jazz Ensembles under the auspices of Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic, of which she is Executive Director. She composed the original score for Arnold Wesker’s The Four Seasons, and her Song Cycle for Voice and Piano, a setting of Hermann Hesse poetry, was performed and danced at the Harlem Dance Theater. A consultant in music education, she appears in concert with the trio and as clinician/artist with more than 100 high schools and colleges throughout the country.

The First at First at Four Concert Series provides a forum featuring prominent musical talent from the Fairfield County area and around the world to perform in an intimate, family-friendly setting. Held at The First United Methodist Church in Stamford on the first Sunday of the month at 4:00 p.m., hence the name First at First at Four, the concert series is a beautiful venue that helps promote the arts in the area, while at the same time, raises funds for First United Methodist Church’s non-profit outreach programs. Past concerts included Grammy award-winning jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum, Grammy and Emmy nominated musician and music director Rob Mathes, Tony Award winner Melba Moore, TransJazz, a New Orleans jazz group The Riverboat Ramblers, Chris Coogan and the Good News Gospel Choir, Richard Cookie Thomas, the world-renown Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble, The Cypress Ensemble and jazz greats Jason Moran and Alicia Hall Moran.
