The Avon Theatre Film Center , 272 Bedford Street , Stamford , is proud to welcome back Academy Award Nominee and longtime Avon patron Gene Wilder for the Third Annual Wilder’s Picks series on Thursdays, September 17, October 22, and November 12 at 7:00 PM. The first two films, Moulin Rouge (1952) and Witness for the Prosecution (1957) are two of Gene’s favorites and will include an introduction by Mr. Wilder.
The third, Frisco Kid (1979), stars Wilder and will include a reception prior to the film as well as a Q & A session following the screening. Wilder’s wife, Karen Wilder, will moderate the post-film discussion. The November 12th reception will begin at 6:00PM.
Don’t miss the chance to join Gene Wilder for two of his favorite films and an all-time classic from his body of work. Moulin Rouge (1952) will screen on Thursday, September 17 and is a daring love story about the famous French painter, Toulouse-Lautrec, directed by the legendary Oscar® winner, John Huston. Witness for the Prosecution (1957), starring Hollywood giants, Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton, will play on Thursday, October 22 and is an Agatha Christie tale of a man on trial for murder: a trial featuring surprise after surprise. Frisco Kid (1979), directed by Robert Aldrich and starring Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford, will screen on Thursday, November 12. Wilder plays Avram, a Polish rabbi wandering through the Old American West on his way to lead a synagogue and meet his wife in San Francisco. Cowpoke bandit Tom Lillard (Harrison Ford) hasn't seen a rabbi before, but he knows when one needs a heap of help. And getting this tenderfoot to Frisco in one piece is going to cause a heap of trouble with the law, the Indians and a bunch of ruthless killers. An evening with Gene and Karen Wilder and the Frisco Kid is a sure winner meant to leave everyone laughing all the way home. Come welcome the Wilders, two of the Avon's favorite and most beloved patrons.
Tickets for the first two Wilder’s Picks’ screenings are: Avon Carte Blanche Members – Free, Avon Members - $6, Seniors and Students - $7, and Non-members - $10. Tickets for the Frisco Kid screening and wine and cheese reception are Avon Members - $15 and Non-members - $20. To purchase tickets, call 203-661-0321 or email lgreeene@avontheatre.org
