On Tuesday, September 28th, Leadership Greater Hartford (LGH) will honor three of the area’s distinguished community leaders for their vision, innovation, perseverance, and courage in serving the Greater Hartford Community, and for providing a guiding light for others to follow. The evening will once again feature Emcee Edward Cumming, Conductor of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the Leaders in Harmony Chorale.

This year’s honorees are: Steve Adamowski, Superintendent of Schools, Hartford City School District; Nicola Adam, Neighborhood Beautification Leader; and Walter Harrison, President, University of Hartford. In addition, we will be recognizing Doe Hentschel, Vice President of Leadership Greater Hartford, for her ten years of service to the organization.

The Polaris Award gets its name from the North Star, which is considered to be one of the brightest lights in our sky. Polaris is known for guiding pioneers, explorers and travelers on their journeys. The presentation of the Leadership Greater Hartford Polaris award sheds a celebratory light on individuals who assist citizens living and working in Greater Hartford.

LGH President Ted Carroll notes that 23 community leaders were nominated for this year’s award. LGH members then selected the honorees based on “their effectiveness in providing a powerful light and example for others to follow.” These individuals, he adds, “Through their personal vision, courage and innovation they have embarked on important community endeavors that produce lasting and meaningful results. These stars, and the other nominees as well, have all made a significant difference in the community.”

This year’s Polaris Awards and Auction will take place at The Hartford Club from 5:30 – 9:00PM, and tickets are $100. Proceeds from the 2010 Polaris Awards benefit the Leadership Development Fund which allows Leadership Greater Hartford to research and develop new programs and offer tuition assistance to participants of current programs.
