Trumbull, CT - The Women’s Business Development Council (WBDC) will present its 10th WBDC Business Breakfast: Power, Politics & Purse Strings on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Trumbull Marriott Merritt Parkway in Trumbull CT. The marquee sponsor is First Niagara.

The WBDC Business Breakfast is long recognized as the signature women’s business gathering in the state, the event this year will mark the 10th such occasion, and will bring together entrepreneurs, business and community leaders, legislators, and other supporters of women. This is the second year in a row that First Niagara has sponsored this event as the marquee sponsor.

“First Niagara is proud to continue our support of the Women’s Business Development Council and this annual breakfast. The WBDC is a valuable resource to women entrepreneurs and small business owners who are creating new jobs in our communities,” said New England Regional President, David Ring. “At First Niagara, we see our mission as helping our customers and communities thrive, and supporting organizations like the WBDC is one of the many ways we do that.”

Entitled Power, Politics & Purse Strings, the program will focus on the growing influence of women as decision makers, change makers, and economic influencers. With the 2012 U.S. Presidential election but a year away from the date of the breakfast, WBDC has made a strategic decision to create a platform on

which to engage women and men, entrepreneurs and the corporate workforce, community organizers and CEOs, in a dialogue about bringing positive and critical economic change.

To that end, WBDC chose David Gergen as the keynote speaker. He is a former White House advisor from Nixon to Clinton; editor of U.S. News & World Report and frequent TV analyst; and director of the Center for Public Leadership at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

“Closing the leadership gap between men and women is one of the central challenges of this century. To have so many talented women and so few women leaders is just wrong… [Women should] speak up. Speak out. Give voice to your ideas. Be heard. Be persistent.” David Gergen.

Mr. Gergen is one of the most respected and balanced commentators on the election landscape, and an eloquent spokesperson for advancing women to positions of leadership, Mr. Gergen will reflect upon more than 30 years of experience within the highest levels of the political and business arenas. Having served as White House advisor from Nixon to Clinton; as editor of U.S. News & World Report and frequent TV analyst; and now as director of the Center for Public Leadership at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, David Gergen provides a singularly personal and informed perspective on the key ingredients required for top business leaders—as we move into a new era of political and economic challenges.

WBDC’s Power, Politics and Purse Strings will celebrate entrepreneurial women, their accomplishments, and their economic impact on Connecticut, our nation and the world.

Other sponsors include Purdue Pharma, The Vince and Linda McMahon Foundation, Peyton Patterson, Wells Fargo and The Xerox Foundation. For information on sponsorships and ticket sales, please call 203.353.1750 or email us at breakfast@ctwbdc.org
