Spearheaded by High Ridge Park Corporate Center in Stamford, the Challenge seeks to satisfy the demand for blood in Connecticut. High Ridge Park expanded the event in its third year which originally included the Stamford community, to include all of Fairfield County. “Expanding the Challenge this year was an advantageous decision,” said Joan Bennett, District Manager/Donor Services, American Red Cross. “We are grateful for High Ridge Park’s continued support.” In recognition of their generous donations, all participants received certificates from the American Red Cross while Albert B. Ashforth was presented a plaque for raising the most productive pints of blood among participants. “The blood drive challenge allows city government representatives, landlords and property managers to come together and demonstrate the importance of giving back to the community,” said Jodi Gutierrez, VP of Property Management for George Comfort & Sons and On-Site Property Manager of High Ridge Park Corporate Center. “The donation results show the major impact we have in helping the American Red Cross and our community.” Participants in the 2009 Challenge included: George Comfort & Sons and RREEF; Building and Land Technology; Albert Ashforth; RFR Realty, LLC; Nyala Farms; Reckson Landmark Square; First Stamford Place/W&M; Stamford Harbor Park; Louis Dreyfus Property Group; Merritt 7; Collins Enterprises LLC; Greenwich Town Hall; Thomson Reuter/W&M; and the Stamford Government Center, which won the Challenge last year. Despite all medical advances, healthy volunteer blood donors are the only source of blood. With just one donation, up to three lives can be saved. Connecticut has 31 transfusing hospitals, where each donated unit of blood can be separated to serve different individuals. Connecticut is not currently self-sufficient and imports many donations. This Challenge aims to help serve the basic needs of Connecticut hospital patients. © Copyright by ConnecticutPlus.com.
