“There are so many ways to say Happy Anniversary Connecticut and this certainly is one of them. It is a wonderful gift,” the Governor said. “What really makes this an anniversary to remember are all the talented people who have stepped up and said ‘let me help.’ We have assembled a marvelous group of volunteers who are helping plan events and activities all year long.” Mark Patnode is a Fellow of the Urban Artists Initiative, which is funded by the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism (CCT) and the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with the Institute for Community Research. His work has been featured in numerous galleries and museums throughout Connecticut and is part of the collection former President and Mrs. George W. Bush and Presidente Pedro Verona Pires of Cape Verde, Africa. A. Vincent Scarano, a commercial free lance photographer, is one of the founding artists and president of Hygienic Art, Inc. His 35-year career includes numerous exhibitions and work as a resident photographer for the O'Neill Theater Center, Garde Arts Center and Connecticut College. The Governor kicked off the year-long celebration on February 17 at the State Library, which houses the fundamental orders and State Constitution. Historians say 1635 was the critical year in Connecticut history because that year marked the settlement of the three river towns – Windsor, Wethersfield and Hartford – that initially established the colony.
