Highly celebrated master portraitists, Thomas Nash and Frank Covino were the jurors for this national portrait exhibition of portrait painting, drawing, and sculpture. Over 260 entries competed and Champanier’s painting, Rose Nocturne, was one of the 74 pieces selected for the exhibition at the UConn gallery.

Champanier has been working as a portrait artist in the region for more than three decades, and her work has been seen in exhibitions from the Bendheim Gallery in Greenwich to the Old Lyme Art Association Gallery. Most recently her work was exhibited at Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk at the “Faces of Fairfield County” exhibition.

Linda strives to capture the unique spark in each individual, whether person or animal. Her photographs and paintings have been featured on several book covers, and have won numerous awards.

Linda started drawing portraits when she was twelve years old. She studied art at Westminster College in Pennsylvania, and for many years, she worked exclusively in pastels. In 1992, she painted her first oil portrait, and discovered she loved the richness and depth that oils create. She went on to study with Connecticut portrait artist Freda Dreany, and later studied with Roger Hendricks at Purchase College and Andrew Lattimore at Westchester Arts Workshop.

Champanier accepts regional commissions from her studios in Stamford and in the Catskill Mountains near Woodstock, New York.

The Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists national biennial juried fine art portrait exhibition, Faces of Winter 2010, is on exhibit, at the UConn Gallery 1 University Place Stamford, CT through March 5, 2010. Over 70 portraits, paintings, drawings, and sculpture on exhibit during Gallery hours. Hours are Mon.-Thurs. 9-7, Fri. 9-5, Sat. 9-1. Admission is free and there is free parking in the Washington Boulevard garage.
