On December 12, 2015, at 8 PM, at the Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, at 279 Atlantic Street, in Stamford, Music Director Eckart Preu will lead the Stamford Symphony and the Pro Arte Singers in a Holiday program of Handel’s Messiah, Part I and Hallelujah Chorus. Immerse yourself in the magic of the season, as Handel’s iconic music fills the Basilica. Written in 1742, this oratorio remains Handel’s best known, best loved, and most performed work today. Come share the warmth, wonder, and spirituality of the season. The Pro Arte Singers were formed in 1972 by current Artistic Director, Arthur Sjögren and a small group of professional singers who shared his dream to perform the finest choral music dating from the Renaissance to the present and to become the only fully professional chorus in the Fairfield/Westchester area. In the following years, The Pro Arte Singers grew in artistic achievement and critical acclaim as they presented an annual concert series, periodic special additional performances, appeared at major music festivals, and made several professionally cut recordings. Now in its 40th season, Pro Arte Singers continues to enrich the cultural life of lower Fairfield County with the finest choral music from the sixteenth century through contemporary works, including premiere performances of commissioned works composed for Pro Arte Singers.
