Dancing with the Stars event returns to Stamford
Curtain Call’s Dancing with the Stars event returns on Saturday, May 19 with 22 dancers gracing the stage of the Palace Theatre in downtown Stamford. One of the 11 dance teams plans to “wrestle” the title from the others; one’s out to “teach” the others a lesson they won’t forget; and another is planning to “psych” out the competition.

Best Darn Jazz Club in Danbury at WCSU
Western Connecticut State University will host the “Best Darn Jazz Club in Danbury” at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 13, in the Colonial Corner in the Student Center on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The opening act will be the Nathan Edwards Quintet and the featured act will be the Rosemary Minkler Trio. Admission will be free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.

The New Play Forum, A New-Works Theater Company, to Debut in Stamford with a "Friend- and Fun-Raiser"

The New Play Forum is a new-works theater company launching at the Stamford Center for the Arts in downtown Stamford. It will kick off with a "friend- and fun-raiser" on Monday, April 30, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Center’s UpStage lobby theater at the Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street. The Celebration for the launch of the New Play Forum will feature entertainment by Broadway performers, including Guy Fortt and Frank Mastrone, and others, as well as food and wine from local providers. Tickets are $20 if purchased by April 16th at www.newplayforum.org.

The Salvation Army Announces Amsterdam Staff Band Performances in Connecticut
The Salvation Army’s Amsterdam Staff Band is set to perform on April 20that 12:30 p.m. at the UCONN Hartford Atrium on Prospect Street in Hartford, CT. Later that night, at 7:00 p.m., they will perform at The Salvation Army Manchester Citadel located at 661 Main Street, Manchester, CT. The Amsterdam Staff Band (ASB) is the premier brass band of the Salvation Army in the Netherlands and was founded in 1962. The band consists of top musicians from all over the country, all of them active in a local Salvation Army Corps (church). All members, in their personal faith in God, fulfill their musicality.
The repertoire of the ASB thus contains a message based on the gospel of Jesus Christ and His love for this world. Every Tuesday there is a rehearsal and on a weekly basis, ASB travels throughout the country to host concerts at various Salvation Army locations.

Tony award winning musical returns with Broadway veteran

Leapin’ lizards! Annie is back at Curtain Call through April 28 and the lovable pooch playing Sandy is none other than Macy, who has played the role hundreds of times on Broadway, tours and more. Annie, the Tony Award-winning family musical in The Kweskin Theatre, Stamford, will play evenings at 7:30pm as well as Saturday and Sundays at 2:00pm.

It's a Bird...It;s A Plane... It's Superman is a 1966 Broadway musical coming to The Kweskin Theatre in June and Curtain Call is holding open auditions for all roles, including the high-flying title character. Auditions will be held Monday and Tuesday, March 26 and 27, from 7pm to approximately 10pm in The Kweskin Theatre, 1349 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Brian J. Bianco is directing, music direction is by George Croom and choreography is by Donna Fox.

Stamford Symphony Announces the 2018-2019 Season
Stamford Symphony CEO & President, Russell Jones announces Ignite Your Senses, the 2018-2019 Season amidst the completion of the Symphony’s Music Director Search. Two additional Guest Conductors, Paul Watkins and Rei Hotoda are scheduled to take the podium at the orchestral concerts on March 17th & 18th and April 21st & 22nd respectively. After the April concerts, the search committee (comprised of musicians, board members and the CEO) will reconvene to review the candidates and make a decision about Stamford Symphony’s next Music Director.

Fourth generation of Stamford family continues on stage
When Moon Over Mulberry Street played in Stamford in 1939, the patriarch of the family, Piccino Morello, was played by Mede Sementini. On March 8, when Mulberry Street (as the play is now called) opens in Curtain Call’s Dressing Room Theatre, Sementini’s great, great nephew, Marc Ursone, will step into the role of George Bowman, the role previously played by Ursone’s uncle and grandfather.
